LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Mississippi Brilla FC fell to the Little Rock Rangers by a close 2-1 score on Saturday night in Little Rock. The loss drops Brilla to a 5-4-1 record, while the Rangers move to 4-5-3.
Goalkeeper Chris Morrish made a couple of nice saves early on, including a diving save of an onrushing Rangers player at the back post.
But the home team still went ahead in the 40th minute of the match. A defensive miscue from Brilla led to the Rangers' striker putting the ball into an empty net.
After the halftime break, Brilla came out with a renewed sense of energy. This paid off when Peyton Voelker tied the match in the 50th minute.
Marco Astorga drove towards the top of the box before playing a pass to Voelker on the left. The winger took his time and fired a powerful shot into the top corner from around 25 yards away.
However, the home team regained the lead just 14 minutes later. A cross from the left flew across the six-yard box before being tapped home at the back post.
Brilla came close to equalizing in stoppage time through Voelker and Santi Diosa, but it just wasn't meant to be. Voelker's strike hit the crossbar, and Diosa's half-volley was headed on goal before being deflected wide.
