BATON ROUGE, La. - After losing its last two matches, Mississippi Brilla FC was able to get back into the win column. Brilla (6-4-1) defeated LA Parish AC (1-9-3) 2-0 at Baton Rouge's Olympia Stadium on Thursday night.
Striker Franck Kouentchi opened the scoring in the 4th minute. Luke Bryant’s cross found the head of Miguel Fernandez, but Fernandez’s header was saved by the goalkeeper. However, the Frenchman was in the right place and thumped the ball into an empty net for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Fernandez doubled Brilla’s lead in the 34th minute. Bryant made a nice run into the attacking third before being fouled by a Parish defender in the 18-yard box. The Spaniard then coolly stepped up to the penalty spot and buried his shot into the bottom left corner.
Brilla outshot Parish 15-13. Andreas Kokoska picked up the win in goal, racking up four saves in the process.
