CLINTON, Miss. - Mississippi Brilla FC (4-2-1) fell to Texas United (6-0-3) by a tough 1-0 scoreline on Saturday night. This was Brilla's second consecutive defeat by the same score to the same opponent.
Despite Texas United having the better of the possession early in the match, Brilla was able to create a great opportunity in the 27th minute. Miguel Fernandez drove a corner kick onto Josh Davies' head at the back post, but the header was cleared off the line by a Texas United defender.
Brilla got another great opportunity in the 45th minute from the foot of Marco Astorga. The midfielder connected nicely on a 30-yard free kick that was saved by the flailing Texas United goalkeeper.
In the second half, Chris Morrish pulled out his heroics yet again. He stopped his second penalty kick in two games. After a Brilla foul in the 52nd minute, the Floridian dove to his right side and parried Emil Jääskeläinen's shot onto the post. He also stopped Jääskeläinen's follow up opportunity, keeping the match scoreless.
However, the visitors' winning goal came in the last minute of the match. A pass was laid off into the path of winger Pol Monells, and he put a powerful shot into the bottom right corner.
The visitors had a slight 9-8 advantage in shots. Brilla led in corner kicks, with four versus Texas United's zero. Fouls were even with 17 apiece. Chris Morrish made four saves in defeat.
