Fresh off yesterday’s announcement of a new head coach, Mississippi Brilla FC today unveiled its USL League Two schedule for 2019. Coach Luke Sanford will lead a team coming off another successful season, hoping to improve upon their 8-2-4 record from 2018. The 2018 squad also advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open Cup following a victory over Indy Eleven of the USL Championship.
The 2019 season will see a move back to the familiar Mid South Division of the Southern Conference. Brilla last competed in the Mid South Division in 2017, and will face familiar competition in Texas United, Houston FC, and Brazos Valley Calvary FC. Corpus Cristi FC and AHFC Royals are new foes that joined the Mid South Division last year while Brilla competed in the newly formed Deep South Division.
“We started a new era yesterday with the announcement of Luke Sanford as our next head coach,” said Executive Director Rusty Bryant. “I guess it is only fitting that we kick off this year of change in a different division as well. We are looking forward to providing our fans with another exciting product on the field in 2019.”
Brilla’s 13th season in the league will begin with a two game home series against Texas United on Thursday, May 16 and Saturday, May 18. The remainder of Brilla’s seven home matches will be spread throughout the summer, culminating with its final home match of the season on Wednesday, July 3 against Brazos Valley Calvary FC, the reigning Mid South Division champions. All home matches will be played at the friendly confines of Arrow Stadium at Clinton High School.
