CLINTON, Miss. - In the final game of the 2022 USL League Two season, Mississippi Brilla FC topped the visiting Blue Goose SC 2-0 on Saturday night. The win allowed Brilla to hit the eight-win mark for the second straight season.
After an uneventful opening part of the first half, Miguel Fernandez opened the scoring for Brilla in the 39th minute. Dom Gibson caused a turnover, and the loose ball ended up at the feet of Marco Astorga. Astorga passed the ball to Fernandez's feet and the Spaniard's 25-yard strike found the top corner. It was his seventh goal of the season, putting him second on the team in that category.
Dom Gibson doubled Brilla's lead in first-half stoppage time. Ocho Fasteen found space on the left and hit a well-weighted cross into the box. Gibson's run saw him positioned nicely for a one-touch finish past the goalkeeper. The goal was his first of the season.
After Brilla went down to ten men after a red card, the team snuffed out Blue Goose attacks throughout the rest of the match. Andreas Kokoska and Gannon Key combined in goal for the shutout.
Brilla outshot Blue Goose 8-7 in the match. The team also had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Mississippi Brilla FC finishes the season with an 8-4-1 record.
