CLINTON, Miss. – After securing an opening night 2-0 victory over TX United on Thursday, Mississippi Brilla FC and the visitors from Dallas tangled up again on Saturday evening in Clinton. The home team scored early and often on it’s way to a 7-1 drubbing and a perfect 2-0 record to start the season.
Only 2 minutes into the contest, Nicolas Cam started off his spectacular night with a through ball to Victor Pimentel who calmly placed the ball to the right of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. The early goal was only a sign of things to come.
In the 12th minute, Brilla drew a foul about 30 yards out from the goal. Will Sainbury-Logan skipped the ball off the turf and the TX United goalkeeper, Nick Malvezzi, was unable to handle the bounce. The set piece strike gave the home team a comfortable 2-goal advantage early in the first half.
Cam got into the scoring action before the first half concluded with a crushing strike from about 15 yards out at a tough angle. The Chilean’s goal came after a pass from Arturo Astorga.
Following the 3-1 halftime cushion, TX United got one back in the 52’ minute when Jorge Barrientos’s corner kick found Dominique Kossehasse on the back post unmarked. The early second half goal seemed to give the visitors some hope of a possible comeback.
Things turned south for TX United just 5 minutes later when Mateo Gonzalez received the team’s third red card in as many games. Playing with ten men and down two goals seemed to dash any hope of a comeback.
If the game was not already over, Cam made sure he put it away with his second goal of the match in the 61st minute. The assist was credited to 2nd half substitute Sondre Olsen. Olsen joined the fun in the 67th minute with an absolute blast past Malvezzi to give Brilla a 5-1 advantage.
The scoring barrage continued as Cam earned his 3rd goal of the match and 4th of the young season as his shot just crossed the line in the 73rd minute. Sainbury-Logan was credited with the assist.
The 7th and final score of the night came from the head of substitute Javier Avelar. A free kick sent to the back post found Nick Rieple who headed it across to Avelar. Avelar did not waste his chance and sent the home team to a 7-1 victory.
The two teams will actually face off again on Thursday in Dallas, TX. Brilla will enter the match with a 2-0 record (6 points), while TX United will be looking for their first win of the season after their 0-3 start.
