Peachtree City MOBA Earn a Late Point in Draw with Brilla

For the second match in a row, Mississippi Brilla dropped points to a team who, on paper, they should have beaten.

After a 0-0 draw with Houston FC on Thursday night, Brilla welcomed Peachtree City MOBA, who sit in last place in the 11-team South Atlantic Division with a record of 2-7-1.

Brilla had already beaten their guests 2-0 in Peachtree City back on May 20.

After a 75-minute weather delay, Brilla started the match brightly, scoring in just the 5th minute after Carlos Garces found André De Giorgi with an incisive pass. De Giorgi drove at the MOBA goal and hammered home a shot.

Brilla controlled the entire first half, but were unable to add to their lead. Brilla didn’t let up in the second half, controlling play until very late when Peachtree City threw everything they had at the Brilla back line. The defense held strong until the final minute of four stoppage time minutes when Daniel Olaniran found an open Todd Fidler. Fidler buried his shot into the far corner of the Brilla net in virtually the last minute of the match.

Brilla dominated in the stats that don’t really matter, taking 11 corner kicks to Peachtree City’s one. Brilla took 16 shots to MOBA’s two. The teams were level on fouls at 16 apiece.

The draw takes Brilla’s record to 6-2-3 and erodes what was a comfortable lead over Brazos Valley Cavalry for the second playoff spot in the Mid-South Division. Brilla now sits just 2 points ahead of the Cavalry with a meeting of the two teams on the horizon.

Mississippi must figure out how to convert possession into goals as they travel to Houston FC and Brazos Valley Calvary next week for two games in three days.

Brilla will return for their final regular season match on July 12 against Texas United.
