CLINTON, Miss. - After a three-hour weather delay, Mississippi Brilla FC was able to defeat the Little Rock Rangers 2-0. Goals from David Medeiros and Adrian Morales, as well as a clutch penalty kick save from Alejandro Chavarria, made the difference.
Medeiros opened the scoring in the 34th minute. After great interplay from Morales and Ciro Damine, a loose ball ended up at the feet of the Brazilian. He made no mistake with the 20-plus yard strike, grabbing his first goal of the season in the process.
The Arkansans drew a penalty kick in the 74th minute and looked to be in prime position to score the equalizer. However, Chavarria came to Brilla's rescue. The Spaniard dove to his left and parried away Jaden Hoth's penalty kick to keep the score 1-0.
In the 83rd minute, the Texas connection of Jalen James and Adrian Morales secured the three points for Brilla. James hit a pinpoint cross across the box and Morales one-timed it beautifully into the back of the net. The goal was also his first of the season.
Brilla improved its record to 4-0-2. The team currently sits on top of the USL League Two's Mid South Division heading into this weekend's road match.
