Mississippi Brilla Takes Second Straight Over Houston FC

Sunday, June 16, 2019

CLINTON, Miss. – Mississippi Brilla FC and Houston FC tangled for the second time over the weekend in Clinton, and, once again, the home side came out on top. Following up on their 3-1 victory on Friday, Brilla finished the two-game home stand with a 2-0 win on a rainy Sunday night.

Brilla controlled the game from start to finish, and never really felt threatened over the 90-minute contest. Brilla kept possession for most of the match, and outshot the visitors from Houston by a count of 23-4. Houston’s goalkeeper, Jacob Madden, kept things from getting out of hand by making 12 saves over the course of the game.

Harry Reilly got Brilla on the board early by finishing off a pass from Arturo Astorga in the 16th minute. Although Brilla took a total of 9 shots in the first half, the 1-0 cushion held up throughout the remainder of the first 45 minutes.

Brilla wasted little time adding to their lead after the break as Sondre Olsen got on the score sheet in the 48th minute. Harry Reilly was credited with the assist after a picture perfect pass across the field in front of the goal. The 2-0 lead was all the Brilla defense needed, as goalkeeper Nic Farr kept the visitors out of the net in his first start of the season.

With the victory, Brilla runs its record to 6-1-2 (20 points), while Houston FC falls to  1-5-2 (5 points) in the Mid South Division. Brilla will hit the road for its next four matches, beginning next Friday in Corpus Cristi. Brilla and Houston FC will face off for the third and final time next Sunday in Houston.
