Horth Set to Return as Brilla Head Coach

Matt Horth is set to return to Mississippi for his second season as the USL2 head coach of Mississippi Brilla FC. Coach Horth has been the head coach of the men’s soccer program at Gordon College, a Division III program in Wenham, Massachusetts, since 2017. Horth is no stranger to the game, as he played professionally with the Atlanta Silverbacks in the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 2011-2012, 2015. He continued his professional career for one year in the MLS with the New England Revolution and two seasons in Iceland.

Horth was hired in February of 2022 to coach Brilla for the summer, and he did exceptionally well with the short time he was given to build the roster and culture that he wanted. In his first season as Brilla’s head coach, he led the team to an 8-4-1 record, claiming the most regular season wins by any head coach for Brilla in their first season on the job. The roster put together by Horth scored 33 regular season goals, the fourth-most in Brilla history.

Brilla’s general manager, Rusty Bryant, is thrilled to have signed Coach Horth for a second season. “Matt Horth has been an incredible addition to Mississippi Brilla. His professional playing background, along with his already successful coaching career is a tremendous asset to our organization. He fits the mission of Brilla perfectly. We can’t wait to see what he is able to do in year two with a full year of recruiting and USL2 coaching experience.”

Horth speaks highly of Brilla and is ready to take on the head coaching task again. “I’m thrilled to be returning to Mississippi Brilla this season, and I look forward to the task of assembling a top-quality team,” says Horth. “Brilla has a long tradition of excellence and is widely known as one of the more professional clubs in USL League 2. I’m honored to be leading the club from the sidelines and can’t wait for our family to be a part of the Clinton community again!”
