Brilla Returns Veteran Local Talent in 2016

A returning veteran player has been added to the growing list of Mississippi Brilla FC's signings. After announcing the return of midfielder Eduardo Cruz and defender Ignacio Flores earlier this Spring, the club is pleased to add Phillip Buffington to the 2016 roster. Buffington, who is a Mississippi native, will add a local flair to the already diverse Brilla team.

Buffington, who is from Jackson, MS, has been one of the club's longest serving players. He is also officially Brilla's all-time leading scorer. Year after year, he's scored big goals, and McKeever will be looking to him to provide veteran leadership.

“Buff is like a piece of furniture at MS Brilla. He understands everything about the program from the ministry to the football, and can be a great role model for the younger lads,” McKeever said. “We were very unfortunate not to have him more involved last year due to injury. Buff is a very dynamic player that will allow us to change the environment when needed. He can play a short passing game as his technical ability and awareness are at a good level. However, he is very tall and strong, which can also give us a direct option if needed. Buff can score goals from anywhere around the box and I feel he will score goals for us this summer. This is another important piece of the puzzle as he has played D1 and USL, as well as 9 seasons at Mississippi Brilla. I am excited to see more of Buff on the field this year.”

Mississippi Brilla FC opens its 2016 campaign by hosting a U.S. Open Cup match on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:00 pm. Home matches will be played at Clinton’s Traceway Park.
